Distinguishing Between the CWB & GOAL

When the CWB in PRESENCE and the GOAL in DISCOVERY are clear, TRANSFORMATION becomes more meaningful and precise.

PRESENCE = Preparing oneself for the coaching session with intention.

  • CWB (Clarify WHO to Be) → Focuses on HOW the client wants to show up, think, see, feel, act which all feeds into—clarifying the "WHO" they are striving to be.

DISCOVERY = Uncovering the client’s story by:

  • Locating where they are in the plot of their story

  • Identifying their preferred story (where they want to be)

  • Understanding what’s disrupting their progress

  • GOAL (3.4) → Focuses on WHAT needs to be explored, understood, solved, or enhanced in the coaching session today that they believe will help move them closer to their preferred narrative.

TRANSFORMATION = The space where WHO and WHAT collide.

  • Here, we explore the tension between identity (WHO) and challenge (WHAT)—unpacking the conflict, determining what’s truly driving it, and deciding what’s worth resolving and what it will take to do so.
